The HIV/AIDS and STI Strategic Plan for South Africa 2007-2011marked a significant and successful turning point in the country’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. This submission aims to address an important gap in the previous NSP, namely, mental health.

Community Care Worker Management Policy Framework
|
Between 29 April and 1 May, the AIDS Consortium and SANAC’s Treatment , Care and Support Technical Task Team hosted a meeting to discuss the critical role of CCWs in South Africa’s social sectors. A group of 50 representatives from 22 non-governmental organisations, 10 academic institutions and two trade unions reached consensus on an alternative Community Care Worker model.
This model acknowledges that CCWs are currently frontline workers responding to priority health and social needs, that their recognition, training, status and support need to be greatly overhauled and as such, proposes a policy framework which supports and sustains this essential service ... read more
