Nurses face enormously stressful working conditions in South Africa. Their workload is overwhelming, with a national nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:468. They face many of the same problems as their patients, such as poverty, violence, HIV/AIDS and lack of support.	Nurse training at Mowbray Maternity Hospital, Cape Town. The PMHP training programme fills a gap in nurse training and at the same time pays attention to nurses' mental health.
