The PMHP has provided psychiatric services to 113 women.

Despite many more women being seen by a counsellor, the number of women who were referred to a psychiatrist has only increased slightly. This may be attributed to better screening processes and the Mental Health Officer's increased ability to explore solutions-focused therapy modalities during initial sessions.

The graph below provides summary data of psychiatric services over the PMHP's 8 years of  operation.

  • The number of sessions attended in 2008 remained consistent with figures for 2007.
  • 13 new clients were seen in 2008.
  • This represents 1% of the total number of women screened, and 5.5% of those who have seen one of the counsellors.
  • During 2007 those who saw a psychiatrist represented 1.4% of women who were screened and 8.8% of those who were counselled.
  • In 2008, three times more women continued with psychiatric care within the Project in the postnatal period , compared to figures for 2007.
